Perry's Adventure - THE STORY
THE HISTORY AND THE FUTURE OF PERRY'S CHERRY™ DINER®
A quick history of Perry's Cherry™ Diner… The building that houses the original Perry's was built in the early 1930's by the Larsen Brothers and was called Larsen's Lunch.  After World War II the Larsens renamed the restaurant Victory Grill.  Then for years it was called Anita's Restaurant.  In 1972 Perry's parents, Jack and Ann Andropolis, bought the restaurant and named it Andropolis Restaurant.  After years of working in his family's businesses and for three national restaurant companies (this factored in with Perry testing very high in adventure in college!) …Perry came back to Door County and revitalized the Sturgeon Bay location.   He envisioned turning the restaurant into the place where it is, "Hip to sip and ok to slurp™," and with this idea, things began taking off.   That is when Perry's adventure started.
With the help of his Mom and Dad in 1992, Perry fashioned the all the concepts, ideas of what made the place. .  Yet the new restaurant with new concepts still needed a new name. Perry remembered an old advertising rule for naming businesses. The rule suggests having a bunch of women go over 10 names, and when four or five women in a row like the same name, go with it.  The women asked loved the name Perry's Cherry™ Diner (which, surprisingly, was not Perry's first choice), answering the question of what to call the restaurant.  The restaurant's name breaks down like so: "Perry" comes from, well, Perry himself, "Cherry" from the famous Door County Cherry and the fact that hot cars in the 1950's were called Cherry, and "Diner" because the word diner sounds better than greasy spoon.   In June of 1992, Perry and Team Cherry turned on the oldies, the neon lights, and opened the "newly revitalized" diner with the goal of becoming the best casual restaurant in Door County.  Thanks to hard work and good fortune, people responded in a big way.  Since then, Perry's Cherry™ Diner  in Sturgeon Bay has been named "Best of Wisconsin" three times, and "Restaurant of the Year" once for its commitment to promoting the "Cherry". We have been told many times that Perry's Cherry has to be one of the best known organizations in all of Door County. At one point Perry's Cherry™ Diner was chosen by a national franchising developer as having possibilities to become a national franchise. (Note; we are not selling franchises we are making available licenses to our business, concept, 'brand' and trademark).
So come on, get onboard now and help shape the future of the brand. The next chapter awaits you.
